Reading Notes: The Mahabharata, Karmic Revolution Part D
The Mahabharata, Karmic Revolution
-Draupadi holds a swayamvara to decide on her husband (like Sita did). All princes attend, including the Pandavas. The princes had to string the bow and shoot a fish in a bowl of oil. What if it was not a fish? Or a different challenge entirely?
-They all failed, including Duryodhana. Arjuna decides to try. He is able to string the bow and kill the fish. What if he also failed, or Draupadi denied him?
-The swayamvara was a turning point in the Mahabharata. Karna attended, friend of Duryodhana. Draupadi said really mean things to Karna because he was a sutoputra.
-Karna is humiliated, and ultimately plans to destroy everything in the future. What if she hadn't been so mean to him?
-Krishna is present, most beautiful. He sees everything as it happens, and is very perceptive. Perhaps he is psychic? Tell a story of his power?
-The Pandavas were attacked while Arjuna took his new wife to his new home. They fought off the attackers.
-When the Pandavas arrived at their home, Kunti thought they had brought food, and said they should share what they had brought between all of them. She found out it was Arjuna's wife, and felt bad. Could retell this little tale or expand upon it to emphasize humor, or have the boys take her seriously.
-Kunti thought they would fight since Draupadi was so beautiful, so she didn't take back what she said (what??). So they decide to all marry her. I could make this a much more feminist section where Draupadi says "heck no" and fights for herself.
-Draupadi had prayed five times for a husband in a previous life, so now she gets five husbands. Coincidentally, there are five Pandava brothers.
-Draupadi's father is angry at this. Why is he angry? Explain in an aside?
