Sacred Tales of India
-The goddess Sashti is the wife of Shiva or Vishnu. Debatable.
-Bijaya's mother dies, and leaves her the duties of worship. Is this a big thing?
-The sisters-in-law are mad, and curse their husbands and children by wanting the task.
-Bijaya goes to visit Sashti, and a tree tells her to take some of his fruit to her.
-A cow tells her to take his milk to her as well.
-Why is this in twos and not threes? I'm thrown.
-She reaches Sashti and worships her form, and later is able to bring her in-laws back to life, although she claimed that SHE was the one to swear on her in-laws.
-A brahman is digging water for a well.
-He has a dream that he has to sacrifice his grandson to reach water. BRUTAL. Reminiscent of Isaac.
-The boy's mother does not know, but his father does
-While the mother is bathing, Sashti comes to her and asks her about her son. The mother worships her.
-Sashti returns her son to her alive, and they all celebrate.
-Why do the gods keep killing people and then bringing them back in a show of power? Weird.
-Joya, who worships Sashti, wants a pujah on earth. She goes to earth to get it.
-A man turns a hungry brahman away because he doesn't have a daughter. Is that supposed to be dirty or just rude?
-He tells the man that he'll have a daughter soon if he feeds the brahman, as Joya will help him.
-Why does everyone volunteer the women for no reason? Do none of them get autonomy?
-They gave the bride to Joydev, who was seeking a bride, so that he may have a daughter for the man, which is extremely weird.
-Has Chandi returned? Or is that the goddess?
-It is the goddess, for she gives the daughter to the man after much difficulty.
